Camarosporium feurichii?
Riet van Oosten, 14-05-2018 22:31
Riet van OostenHello,

Found: 12-05-2018, The Netherlands
On Phragmites australis, on dead stem. Correction: in the periderm of the leaf sheath.
Conidia: 15.0-16.0-17.3 x 7.2-7.4 µm

Could this be Camarosporium feurichii?

Ellis & Ellis, p. 512/513:  conidia: 15-17 x 5-6 µm
W.B. Grove's "British Stem- and Leaf-Fungi" volume II., p. 99/100: conidia: 10-16 x 4-6 µm

Greetings,
Riet

Re : Camarosporium feurichii?
Hello Riet
that is the name I would file this under; here you will find the original description:
https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/418917#page/474/mode/1up

As with many "coelomycetes" we can never be sure what makes a good "species" on gross morphology alone (a problem for us amateurs). To quote Brian Sutton in his book "The Coelomycetes" (1980) while writing about Camarosporium:
"The genus contains about 400 names, many of which refer to species that have not been re-examined since their introduction. Many taxa have been proposed on the basis of their occurrence on hosts other than those known already to support Camarosporium species, so the genus is in urgent need of revision, discounting any approach based on host specificity"

best wishes
Chris
