Perithecia approximately 0.3mm with asci measuring 78 x 18, with many small ascospores inside. Ascospores appeared aseptate (not certain as not stained - buying congo red and cotton blue soon) and were constricted at the middle. A random spore in an ascus measured 4.7 x 3.0 microns. I did not see any liberated.
Not a good description - I am quite new to this - but any assistance would be appreciated as it was an interesting find. IoW, South England.
Note: It has been suggested as Thelocarpon.
cheers
Yes, Thelocarpon is a good idea.
Could you test it with Melzer. First to see if septum is present (it should be), then to see apical apparatus.

Hallo, according to general outfit (rather flat, below constricted ascomata) as well as shape of asci (cylindrical clavate) it looks like Thelocarpon lichenicola to me, an algicolous non-lichenized species which is sometimes dealt in a separate genus Ahlesia. Good to test iod-kalium, at least in young asci deeply amyloid shallow tholus should occur. Best wishes
Zdenek
