Peziza domiciliana??
hannie wijers, 05-03-2018 17:15
Goodday,
Today I found between concrete some Peziza in the living area. Curious as I was I did some material under the microscope. There were asci theat were about 300 x 16 µm. Paraphyses slender; septate; with slightly swollen tips. Spores measure 12-15 x 8-10 µm, they were a little rough, without oil droplets. Asci eight-spored; with blue tips in Melzer's Reagent. Could this possible be Peziza domiciliana?
Thanks,

Groeten  Hannie

Re : Peziza domiciliana??
Not sure that the specimens are enough mature. Is it possible to get a spore-print? A picture os ascospores in a higher resolution is required.
In my opinion, your collection represents P. varia, but needs more info to be sure at 100%

Re : Peziza domiciliana??
I had examined a very similar species which through some (perhaps old) keys I also concluded to be domeciliana, but later upon asking for confirmation, I was told to be P. varia. I forgot the distinction, but it should be one of these two species. Try an learn the distinction between the two and compare with your specimen. The habit (damp walls) is typical.

Nicolas and Stephen thanks foor the reaction. I hope there will be some more material. I have to wait a few days. I read about P. varia but hasitated. I will compare the two. I wil try again in a couple of days
