Hyphomycete?
Wolfgang von Brackel, 10-02-2018 13:39
Wolfgang von BrackelHello,
has anybody an ide what this could be? I've got it from bark from Sicily and I am not even sure it is a hyphomycete. Unfortunately I was not able to see the conidogenesis.

Re : Hyphomycete?
It looks like collapsed sporangia of some zygomycetous fungus to me?

Re : Hyphomycete?
Thank you Jason! Do you have any recommendation for literature that could help me to identify it (or at least get an idea where it belongs in the zygomycetes)?

Re : Hyphomycete?

Hallo Wolfgang,

here you can find some ideas, a bit difficult since you didn't get any undamaged sporangiophore.

But at least it is obvious there are sporangiophores and rhizomorphs, so there are less possibilities! Good luck

Re : Hyphomycete?
Hello Wolfgang

Maybe it's Rhizopus nigricans, Zygomycete.

Michel.

Re : Hyphomycete?
According to its name, R. nigricans has distintive black sporangia, that's not the case in Wolfgang's specimens. The structure of sporangia/sporangiophore is an important feature; unfortunately, the specimen on the last pic is somewhat crushed, difficult to see. Anyway, it may be another Rhizopus sp, the first genus to which I've assigned at first glance this specimen.

Re : Hyphomycete?
Thank you all! From what I saw in literature and in the net, Rhizopus seems to be the genus. I will try my best to find aut the species!
