Tiny black roughened spheroid asco
Ethan Crenson, 28-02-2017 21:11
In Bronx, New York City.  Tiny (.5 - 1mm) on decorticated hardwood branch.  Roughened spheroid stromata.  The spores are large, hyaline and up to 3-septate, sometimes with the center two cells slightly more swollen and guttulate than the end cells.  Asci with 8 spores, IKI-, 64 - 68um by 12.8 - 14.4um.  Spores measure 33 - 35um by 3 - 5um.

Re : Tiny black roughened spheroid asco
Very glad to see the technical issues are resolved for this site.  I was toying with the idea that this might be Bertia moriformis, but I think the spores have too many septations.  Is there anyone who might have some insight?  Thanks.

Bertia moriformis.  It is a weed in many parts of the USA.

Thanks Andrew!  I revisited this collection today and found spores that fit much more comfortably with Bertia moriformis var. moriformis, so I'm pretty comfortable calling it that.  The photos I added show the specimen in cotton blue and Meltzer's.  They appear to be most frequently 1-septate. 33.5-48?m by 4.5-5?m
