Small Brown Disco - Unguiculariopsis sp?
Vivien Hodge, 27-12-2016 11:19
Hi Everyone

Found on 23-12-2016 in woodland in Capel, Surrey, UK. TQ1787540235

Brown disco, 0.5mm. dia. approx. On dead attached branch of Carpinus betulus. It was in a crack in the branch, I could not see if it was on another fungus.

Spores ellipsoid 6.5-7.5 x 3.5-4
1-2 VBs at each end of spores while alive. One septum visible in each spore while still in ascus after adding Melzers.
Asci 32-35 x 5-6.25 with croziers.
J-
Hairs 40-42 long, 5 across base, brown, curved to hooked, tapering to a slight swelling at apex.
Paraphyses bifurcated, thickened and roughened in upper parts, 40-60 long.
Ectal excipulum textura globosa/angularis

Unguiculariopsis or allied genus? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Best wishes
Vivien

Yes, clearly Unguiculariopsis sp., but very difficult to identify.

Thanks Zotto for quick response.

I will dry and retain in case anyone wants it for molecular studies in the future.

Best wishes
