Scutellinia setosa?
M Jonathan, 28-10-2016 03:55
M Jonathanvery small Scutellinia (2mm) from rotten Maple wood, near Ottawa ontario, 26 October 2016.

Spores smooth or very finely ornated, measuring 20-22-12-14u.
Ascus octospored, do not react with Melzer.
Paraphyse with orange content on apice, apex inflated, multiseptated.

Very similar to S setosa, but spores seem slightly larger than what they should normally be for this specie.

Furthermore, is it possible to get a culture of this specie? I would like to get DNA out of it.

Re : Scutellinia setosa?
How long were the hairs and were the spores described from a spore drop or just a squash?

Re : Scutellinia setosa?
for the plate on the original post spores come from a squash, however I took some more photo today of ejected spores, hairs measure up to 500-750u long.

Good evening, I could see your photos; have you tried instead to Cheilymenia?

Michel.

Re : Scutellinia setosa?
Not too familiar with that genus, do you have a key you can send me?

I don't know if Cheilimenia can be found on rotten wood however?

Re : Scutellinia setosa?
Genus Cheilymenia has eguttulate spores, this should be Scutellinia IMHO. But I can't say more, never saw S. setosa myself.

Re : Scutellinia setosa?
It certainly looks like the couple of finds of this species that I have.
