Yellow Otidea
Viktorie Halasu, 03-08-2016 00:25
Viktorie HalasuHello all,
could you please help me with this nice Otidea?

Found at a forest path, close to the city, nitrogen rich soil (Urtica, Impatiens sp.), young deciduous trees around.
Young apothecia lemon yellow, older (and dryer) discoloring to light yellow-ochre with a bit more yellow hymenium. Cup up to 30 × 15 mm, stem cca 10 × 3-6 mm.
Receptacle slightly wrinkled, no ribs, fine furfuration in the same color.

Sp. oblong, *(9,8) 10,3-11,5 (11,8) × (4,9) 5,4-5,8 (6) um, Me = 10,8 × 5,5 um, Q = (1,7) 1,8-2,1 (2,3), Qe = 2.
Paraphyses clavate or capitate, straight or slightly bent.
Ectal excipulum rich with yellow-brown (gold-brown) exsudate, in KOH yellowing, in MLZ very slowly dissolving (I didn't see those amber drops, but after about 10-15 min the preparate was completely without exsudate).
Medulla contains some angular bodies, hyaline in water, changing to brown in MLZ. Hyphae in medulla without exsudate.
Mycelium hyfae with very sparse exsudate, yellowing in KOH.

It looks a lot like O. concinna, but I didn't find any info about those "cells" in medulla, and character of the locality is perhaps a bit different too.
Thank you very much.

Re : Yellow Otidea
All the characters correspond to Otidea concinna.
The special "cells" in medullary excipulum should be some exudates that dissolve in MLZ into amber drops.

Re : Yellow Otidea
Thank you, Nicolas.
This is a new genus for me, so I'm still learning to see the microchemical reactions.
