Literature search - key to genera of inoperculates
Viktorie Halasu, 16-01-2016 20:48
Viktorie HalasuWould you please recommend me a key to genera of inoperculate discomycetes?
I found a little (Svrcek's key in Czech Mycology; or in Nordic macromycetes are also many genera keyed out), but these keys are older and don't distinguish between IKI and MLZ reaction, neither mention croziers. For operculates there are great synoptic keys by Korf and later Hohmeyer - is there anything similar for this group too?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi Viktorie

I am sorry, if you want such detailed keys there is nothing comprehensive published.

The key by Raitviir 2004 on Hyaloscyphaceae (without Lachnaceae) is one of the newest, but doesn't use IKI and is sometimes erroneous in croziers.

The problem is that many genera are artificial, so there is much changing all the time, the more molecular work finds out relationships that have been overlooked. It is therefore still premature to make dichotomous keys to genera of the Helotiales.

Besides, croziers have mostly little value at the generic level.

As someone new to the study of ascos I'd be grsteful for any information about the keys referred to here:

Thank you, Mr. Baral, I guessed it's because of all the clarifications and analyses going on.
I know about Raitviir's work, but don't have it yet, as I was not sure if I'd rather work with Helotiales or Pezizales. I'll try to keep up with new articles and hopefully someday it will be clearer to me. Until then I'll be very grateful for this forum. :-)
One more thing I would like to ask - in your bibliography I saw the keys from your DVD. Are they available somewhere? I didn't see them among your files/photos.

les hughes: Korf's key to genera of Pezizales (1972) is online on cybertruffle, Hohmeyer's to genera of tribus Aleurieae (1988) is on APN website.
