Delitschia griffithsii Cain.
Joop van der Lee, 08-12-2015 16:42
Joop van der LeeFound on horse dung.

Photo of fruitbody is not very clear.

Asci: 8-spores, uniseriate, 485-525x50-60 um, expanding in water up to 71.5 um

Spores: Transversly septated, surrouded by a gelatinous layer 21.3 um wide, 71.9-76.3 (-81.5)x35.5-39 um, no germ slit observed.

In the publication "Addition to the genus Delitschia by Allen & Cain" spore sizes for D. chodocola are 64-82x19.5-28 um and for D. pachylospora 47-65(-75)x25-37 um.

The drawings for D. chodocola do not match with the photos taken while for D. pachylospora they do.

These two species are the only ones having such large spores for 8-spored asci as mentioned in the key list.

Re : Delitschia pachylospora?
The spores match very well with those of Delitschia griffithsii Cain.
Luck-Allen & Cain: 73-79 x 34-40, Asci uniseriate.
Currently we have this species on old dung of Koniks (nearly wild horses).

In my opinion D. chodocola and D. pachylospora are different species.
