Distinctive fungus found on Spruce Pine Cone
John Leach, 11-11-2015 13:49

Hello all

During a foray at Longshaw, Derbyshire in August I found a Spruce Cone with distinctive purple 'tubular' growths. Size  upto 4 mm x 0.75mm. At the time I found no significant fungal evidence.

On incubating for almost 3 months inside a plant propagator (left in the garden) a very nice Ascomycete developed.

Largest fruitbody Stem 5mm, Disc 6mm

Ascus tips blue in Melzer's. Spores 20.5 - 23.5 x 4 - 6.5 micron

My thoughts were of a Possible Ombrophilia, but really not sure at all

Any help, comments as usual very much appreciated

John

Many thanks Zotto

Due to the substrate I was fooled into thinking this was something entirely different!

Very Best Wishes - John
