Elisabeth Stöckli, 27-09-2015 13:03
Bonjour,

Trouvé sur pives de pinus (tourbière);

Apothécies 0.3-0.8mm, l'hyménium gris/jaune, asques 65-100x7.5-9µm, 8 spores, IKI, spores 11-17x3-4µm, 3x septées, paraphyses non élargies au sommet/fourchu.

Merci pour votre aide.

Hi Elisabeth

I am sorry I have so far no good idea :-(

I think the apos are toothed, are they?

Did you poick up this cone on the ground? But not immerged in water?

Re : Sur pives de pin
Elisabeth sent me some further photos, now i think I know:
Pseudophacidium cf. piceae, HB 5840e. Inamyloid asci (Phacidium has amyloid rings), branched paraphyses, overmature septate spores, apos with black teeth, everything fits. This one grew on Pinus mugo twigs at 1750 m.

A 100% identification wa snever possible so far. Moreover, the genus Starbaeckia nmight have to do with this fungus.

Re : Sur pives de pin
Interesting, several days ago I collected something that looks very similar from Picea branches, although the asci are hemiamyloid.

Hi Joey

what eas reactive, an ascus apical ring? Did the apos also have such black teeth?

Re : Sur pives de pin
Yes the apical ring is reactive.  I am looking at it right now and I think it may in fact be Scleroderris or something close.  The ascospores and paraphyses are similiar, but I mistook the tears in the host tissue for the "excipulum teeth" (it is erumpent).

Re : Sur pives de pin
A late identification: Based on a sequence from another sample I am quite sure that Elisabeth's fungus was Micraspis strobilina. Quijada et al. 2019 wrote about Micraspis and erected a new order Micraspidales.
