Dematioscypha on Betula
Bernard Declercq,

Collected on rotten wood of Betula:
Apothecia sessile on a small base, 0,25-0,3 mm diam., with grey flat disc, outer surface brown, margin covered by subhyaline hairs. Growing in company of black setose conidiophores. Asci cylindrical-clavate, dome swelling but negative in IKI, 8-spored, 34-49x6-6,5 µm, without croziers. Spores narrowly ellipsoid to subcylindrical, straight to slightly curved, 6-8,5x2 µm, with a few small VBs at both poles, LC 2, smooth, hyaline.Paraphyses 1-1,5 µm diam., sometimes branched.Ectal excipulum of pale brown textura prismatica, walls covered with dark brown gel; marginal hairs tapering, thin-walled, up to 85x3 µm, 0-2-septate, hyaline; lateral hairs cylindrical, rounded apex, up to 40x2-2,5 µm, 2-3-septate, mid brown base and hyaline apex.
This collection is close to D. dematiicola but asci have no croziers and hairs are thin-walled. A different species?
Thanks for your help.
Bernard

Hi Bernard
do you see any problems with D. (richonis var.) olivacea?

Re : Dematioscypha on Betula
Hi Zotto,
I excluded D. olivacea because I did not observe the typical golden yellow to greenish exudate on the hairs. But I should reexamine my collection perhaps.
Thanks anyway.

Re : Dematioscypha on Betula
I think the exudate can also be almost hyaline and not frequent. In KOH it disappears compoletely (similar as in hyaloscypha aureliella).
