Even the hairy genus unknown
Marja Pennanen, 05-09-2014 01:28
Hi forum,

it is late and I have tried to determine this peculiar collection.
These grow on a Vaccinium uliginosum leaf. They are up to 0,7 mm wide and stipate.

The hairs are unfamiliar to me, so I'm expecting a new genus for me.
They are septate and seems to have something brush like on the top of them.
They are up to 250x5-7 long.
The spores are about 12-16x2,5-3 and have droplets (or warts, can't be sure).
The asci are about 55-62x5-7, IKI reaction very mild, if some.
Paraphyses are weakly lanceolate, about 2 micrometers wide.
The marginal cells are long, about 40x5-7.

The collection is only one leaf with a few fruitbodies, is there any reason to go and try to find more?

Dear Marja,

the "brush" on top of the hairs are crystals. This could be Incrucipulum virtembergense.

Re : Even the hairy genus unknown
Dear Martin,

danke schön!

Yes, it must be Incrucipulum virtembergense, a new genus for me.

This is on the ascomycete list of Finland as Lachnum virtembergense and  has been determined by Raitviir.
No wonder, that I could not determine this, if proffessionals here could not do that...

The funny crystals look like a brush when you see them with 500x magnification ;)
