I found this striking species on a decorticated branch of Quercus cf. cerris lying on the ground. Any ideas/suggestions? Ascospores measure about 16-19 x 4-4,5 µm.

It may be Propolina cervina, which seems to be similar to Propolomyces but polysporous. But I don't have access to any description of that species. It may be described in Dennis 1995 Fungi of south east England and is originally described by Saccardo 1884

that is a great suggestion! Saccardo's short description in Sylloge Fungorum 8 (http://www.cybertruffle.org.uk/cyberliber/01456/0654.htm) fits quite well but he also gives a synonym for his species, Propolis cinerescens f. myriospora Tul. &. C. Tul., which is illustrated here in brilliant quality as can be expected by these authors: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/106459#page/254/mode/1up. Typical Propolis farinosa grows on the same branch as this multispored species, by the way.
I don't have Dennis' book so if anyone could check if Propolina cervina is mentioned in it, I'd be grateful!

I thought I had responded here, but apparently not. I wonder about the marginal structure, i.e. the periphysoids (in radial section). Possibly this species differs from Propolis merely in polyspory? Then it would hardly deserve a genus of its own.

Zotto, right now I have to study a few other ascomycetes but I will try to get back to this find and make a section soon.

Yes, Quercus again, either Q. cerris or Q. petraea – a corticated branch on the ground.
