Peziza near firesite
Nick Aplin, 29-03-2014 01:32

Salut à tous,

I found this Peziza 28/3/2014 near an old fire site amongst mosses on rich stoney soil in the South of England:

Apothecia 30-40mm, without obvious stalk.

Ascospores 20.6 - 22.6 x 11.3 - 12.4, uninucleate, perfectly smooth in CB, germinating into conidiophores with 4-7 conidia.

Paraphyses clavate, cells more or less inflated, top cell with rather striking golden LBs.

Is this  P.megalochondra?

Amitiés,

Nick

Re : Peziza near firesite
hi nick,

to me it looks like peziza granularis Donadini, which is not unusal to burnt ground. the curved, swollen paraphyses with yellow-brown content are typical ... but never seen these conidias.

best

Re : Peziza near firesite
Can you describe the structure of excipulum? Without that, it will be difficult to answer your question.

Re : Peziza near firesite

Hi Dirk, Nicolas and everyone,

Sorry, I forgot to add this photo of the excipulum cells - They measure up to 110 µm (there were no layers of other cells).

Amitiés,

Nick

After a bit of research, I think Dirk's suggestion of Peziza granularis looks like a good fit....
