Nectria species.... fuckeliana???
Gina Rackley, 03-02-2014 11:43

Hello,

I don’t know if I’m getting this correct. I came across clusters of bright red Nectria on the bark and the cut surface of a log. They are 0.2 to 0.3 mm across (around 5 per mm); have a rough surface with small points; the spores are around 16 x 5 microns with a single septum and with or without a droplet in each side; the asci have some sort of structure at the tip.

I’m guessing N. fuckeliana, but this has a couple of problems;-

-         the structure at the tip of the asci doesn’t seem to extend right the way to the end of the asci.

-         The clusters are not apparently sitting in the stroma of the wood.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Gina.

Re : Nectria species.... fuckeliana???
Dear Gina:
I am working on taxonomy of Nectriaceae. One of the species we want to figure out is this one N. fuckeliana. Is it possible to have a fresh specimen and a culture of this collection? If you cannot culture it, maybe just a fresh specimen (not heat dried) that I could use for getting a culture?
Thank you.
Beautiful specimen!

Re : Nectria species.... fuckeliana???
Hello Priscila,

I still have the specimen with a few less spheres on it. If you would like to email me with your address I'll send it to you. Are you happy that it is N. fuckeliana?

Gina.

Re : Nectria species.... fuckeliana???
Maybe it is fuckeliana. But that's why I need to see the anamorph.

Which is your email address so I can send you my address?

Thank you very much!! :)

Best,
Priscila
