Parasite on Holmiella sabina?
Nedim Jukic,
31-12-2013 18:55
I`ve collected these on Juniperus sp. last saturday, and managed to find three ascocarps growing directly from cluster of Holmiella sabina (0,5mm).I`ve been searching the literature, but couldn`t find anything specific for the possible parasite on the species of Eutryblidiella.
Appreciate any help and wish you all happy and successful New Year.
Ascospores:
57.7 - 67.6 (69.4) x 3.2 - 4.5 µm
Q = 17 ; N = 5
Me = 63.6 x 3,9 µm ; Qe = 12.3
Asci:
75.5 - 98.8 x 17.24 - 29.66 µm
Q = 2.55 - 5.3 ; N = 4
Me = 90.9 x 21.8 µm ; Qe = 4.3

Re : Parasite on Holmiella sabina?
Hi Nedim
strange fungus! My idea is something like a Gorgoniceps or Pseudohelotium or ... Â
The apos are not too small, do you think you manage a median section with a razor blade? Â Would be good to see the excipulum at flanks. An external view would also be good. Are the hyphae parallel (text. porrecta)?
When you add Melzer or Lactophenol you will better see the septa of the spores. Are they four or more?

Re : Parasite on Holmiella sabina?
Hi Zotto and thanks for reply.
I didn`t succeed quite well with median section. There was only one small apothecia left giving me the problems. It seems that it is too small for me :)
Although, here is the photos I`ve managed to pull out.
Also one enlarged photo of spores. I`ve count on some of them 10 or even more septa.
Hyphae are parallel, but not so regullary.

Re : Parasite on Holmiella sabina?
Dear Nedim
thanks. Â I have placed your fungus in Pseudohelotium in order to have it somewhere.
Will be difficult to find a name, I am sorry I have no idea.

Re : Parasite on Holmiella sabina?
Dear Nedim,
Have you worked on the Mytilinidiaceae seen on your photo ? It looks like Mytilinidion thujarum, isn't it ?

Re : Parasite on Holmiella sabina?
Dear Alain,
I think it is, but unfortunately I can`t find it anymore on this substrat. It seems that I`ve cut this part while I was prepearing this "Pseudohelotium" and somehow manage to lost Mytilinidion, while Holmiella is still there. Anyway, I`ll do my best to collect some fresh examples as soon as possible and will inform you.
Thank you both once more.
