Small round yellow asco on oak in California
Alan Rockefeller,

Seen at the Yuba Watershed Fungus Fair. Growing on oak.Spores (12) 13 (14) x (3) 3.5 (4), smooth, with many small oil droplets. Asci 100 - 120 x 7 - 8. Crush mount also showed abundant long threads approx 1 micrometer thick.
What could this be?

I remember these too, I think asci images are probably needed?

Re : Small round yellow asco on oak in California
Does anyone have any ideas about which species of Bisporella this is? Is it definitely a Bisporella? Are any more micrographs needed?

Alan, maybe try viewing the asci in melzers? There is some more info here.

Hopefully someone else here can weigh in too?

Re : Small round yellow asco on oak in California
It has been suggested on Mushroom Observer that this could be Bisporella citrina or Bisporella sulfrina.

Re : Small round yellow asco on oak in California
When comparing the spores of my observation to other Bisporella citrina observations, the spore shape looks pretty different. My spores are crescent shaped, while other people report ellipsoid spores.
