Setose ascomycete on Epilobium hirsutum
Marcus Yeo, 03-12-2013 21:52
This ascomycete looks distinctive but I've been unable to identify it. It was growing on dead stems of Epilobium hirsutum.

Ascomata are globose, black, superficial, with brown, septate setae (ca 300 x 5-7 µm).

Asci are ca 65 x 7 µm. Spores are 17-21 x 3-4 µm; 5-septate with the third/fourth cell slightly swollen; one oil body in each cell.

Any help would be very welcome!

Thanks in advance.

Marcus

Re : Setose ascomycete on Epilobium hirsutum
Hello Marcus,
Ceci est apparemment une Herpotrichiellaceae et dans ce cas probablement
Capronia setosa. L'identification sur photo est en général assez délicate.
Cordialement
Paul

Merci Paul

It's very helpful to have an indication regarding a possible identification. Capronia is not a genus I'm familiar with.
