Black Perithecia with Conidiomata in Pink Stained Wood
Peter Thompson,
24-04-2013 23:37
I have a collection of black, spherical perithecia accompanied by brown conidiomata with paler tips and ball shaped 'joints' as well as regular septation. These conidiomata are surrounded by pinkisk red staining of the decorticated wood of the host.
The microscopy shows 8-spored asci; the spores readily splitting at their central septum. The spores are hyaline, with 2 to 4 guttules. The genus Chaetosphaeria comes to mind for some species with spores splitting into part-spores, such as C. preussii, but I can find no suitable species in the literature, assuming that the pink staining is relevant.
I have attached images of the fruit bodies and the microscopy.
Does anyone have any idea as to the species?
Thank you,
Best wishes,
Peter.
