I recently collected a sample consisting of dark brown to blackish perithecia embedded just below the epidermis of a dead stem of Urtica dioica. A very short ostiole punctured the surface, surrounded by a greyish spot, marking the location of each fruit body (see attached photograph).
The microscopy (see attached drawing) revealed spore characteristics which are quite different from those of ascomycetes which I have previously found embedded in the dead stems of herbaceous plants. I have not managed to identify even the genus with the literature available to me.
I would appreciate any help with the identification of genus and species, please.

Hi,
this should be Phomatospora berkeleyi. I think this is not easy to handle because there are probably more than one undetected species behind this taxon.

I have just looked Phomatospora berkeleyi up and see that it fits well. Most often found growing in grass stems, but there are also some records for herbaceous plants.
