¿Orbilia?
Salvador Tello, 19-01-2013 16:51
Hola.

Este ascomiceto crece en madera de Eucalyptus.
Tiene apotecios de hasta 0,6 mm. Ascas no amiloides de  48,1 [52,9 ; 56,7] 61,5 x 4,4 [4,9 ; 5,4] 5,9 µm. Paráfisis septadas, de ápice algo engrosado y he visto algunas bifurcadas. Esporas lisas, hialinas, con un SB en un extremo, de 9,4 [10,8 ; 11,5] 12,9 x 1,7 [2 ; 2,2] 2,4 µm.
Creo que puede ser una Orbilia, pero no se cual.
Gracias.

Saludos.
Salvador.

Re : ¿Orbilia?
Saludos Salvador

great! I am presently out of order due to a new installation of windows. So I cannot compare easily your collection with those I know. The spores and SBs (spore bodies in the spores) are too short to fit Orbilia vinosa, but it is something close. I fear it is something very unusual. If it is introduced from Australia then we will have problems in naming. Although we know maybe 100 species from there, we are sure there exist another 100.

A possibility would be O. hesperidea, but that species has, apart from wider spores, characteristic SCBs in the excipular cells and also paraphyses. What you could try is a median section through the apothecium and to look at flanks and margin for contents in the living cells (in water).

Zotto

PS: I overlooked your excipulum photo showing living cells. Not sure if there are ring-shaoed, pale yellowish SCBs (might lie out of the sharpness). Their presence would be very important to know. At the margin there might be short glassy porcesses on the cells, which are best studied in a section. Though variable, there presence would exclude some taxa. Is there any exudate over the paraphyses? I don't see any on your photos.

Re : ¿Orbilia?
Hola Zotto.

Gracias.

Saludos.

Re : ¿Orbilia?
Dear Salvador

the SCBs are very well seen on two of your images, gratulation!

I assume the glassy processes are absent, though this is not 100% clear.

If the spores were a little wider it would be typical O. hesperidea.

From your scale I evaluate the spores as 9.5-12 x 1.7-2 µm, which is actually impossible for hesperidea.

So an enigma!

Re : ¿Orbilia?
Please do not through this specimen away. I would like to include the collection data in our monograph, so I would like to ask you for them. Presently I only intend to mention it as deviating from close species, though I could imagine that it is a new species.

You may also send it to me, I would then try to supplement its features. Here my address:

Huu, now it will become complicated :-( No, if you wish please do. We have lots of work and little time, and your photos will be very valuable, I am sure.

It seems to be a Spanish species :-)

Do you think this one is xelotolerant? I told Salvador better to send dry.

Re : ¿Orbilia?
Bueno, pues entonces se la mando a Raul (es una pena que hay poco material y no puedo enviar a los dos).

Zotto, ¿te envio los datos y las fotos mías, o mejor te lo envía luego Raul?
Muchas gracias de nuevo.

Re : ¿Orbilia?
Hi Salvador

how far from your home is the collection site if this Orbilia? Perhaps you can find it again? This may be useful not only for more material, but also to see if its characters are again the same.

Your last sentence I did not understand,  You may send me all your photo by mail in higher resolution, if you mean that. zotto@arcor.de

Luego te mando las fotos.
