Calycellina?
Marja Pennanen, 18-09-2010 12:28
Hello,

these grow on Vaccinium uliginosum (and Betula) leaves and are 0,5-1mm wide.

Re:Calycellina?
The spores are about 15-20x4-5 and multiguttulate.
Asci are about 80-100x10-12 (IKI red) and paraphyses about 3 micrometers wide with big vaccuoles.

With these I'm almoust sure of croziers ;)

I took these photos from the Old Russian.
The loaned microscope got something wrong, while it shows everything like through milkclass.
It seems to be good otherwise just don't show anything propely. Here same cells in a photo taken from the university miscroscope.

Re:Calycellina?
What does IKI red mean, did you see an apical ring staining red? What shape? hymenoscyphus or calycina?

Re:Calycellina?
Dear Zotto,

IKI red means, that what I saw was not blue, but something brown -or redish.
Just that The Old Russian don't show now very cleary, so I don't actually know the precise shape.
It depends, what one see ;)

Re:Calycellina?
That's quite good, and clearly hemiamyloid. Could be Hymenoscyphus type, and then I remember only Hymenosc. carpinicola on leaves or fruits of Carpinus, which has a hemiamyloid ring. Maybe this has a wider host range. - Oh yes, when I look in my database of finds I saw there are,. besides Carpinus, also Vaccinium, Fagus and Acer leaves! So I am sure you have that species.

Re:Calycellina?
Thank you once again,

an interesting new species for me :)
These ascomycetes are very adaptable to different substrates. Caprinus (and many other southern species) don't grow up here naturally, but many ascos, that can be met souther, luckily grow :)

Happily: Marja
