ascomycete with mufiom spores on bark
Stoykov Dimitar, 19-02-2024 08:01
Stoykov DimitarHallo,

Attached are photos of ascomycete finding, from high mountain area, with ascomata in black areas ruptured from bark surface.

Apores are 22-31 × 11-17 µm (27±3 × 14±1.6), Q=1.7-2.2 (1.9±0.2), n=15, broadly ellipsoid, hyaline, murifrorm, thick-walled.
On bark of living tree, alt. ca. 1600 m (montain).
Any suggestions on genus name are welcome.

Thank ypu in advance!

I am not the expert, but my very brave guess is that your specimen might belong in Triblidiaceae, possibly Pseudographis elatina???.
I myself collected  only P. pinicola few times. But very difficult to say from your photos. The phorophyte also would be of a help. Did you try iodine reaction of ascospores?
Any way you should ask anybody working with these fungi whether I am not misleading you

Thank You Zdenek,
I will check the iodine reaction, i
f possible because the collection is old.
I was mistaken than it is lichenized, but as there are no algae it seems reasonable to be in this fungal group.

Regards,

Dimitar

Re : ascomycete with mufiom spores on bark
Today I have tested old spores left from section from august 2015 on microscope slide  free and within asci with Lugol's solution. But did not checked if they were coloured with age.
I wil try to section almost  8 years old apothecia, just packed the material on bark into an empty  jar with wet paper at the bottom. Tis photo is just after the test with lugol under LM.

I made a microscope slides, from the refreshd collection. So the spores appeared again hyaline, and  muriform. After tstt with Lugol's solution without KOH pretreatment they turned darker (some bluish tint maybe observable.

Hi Dimitar,
I agree with Zdenek. Please check if wood is coniferous. And then you can check if it's P. elatina.

Thank You!
Yes the tree is definitely coniferous - there were Abies in the collection site, I remember since 1993
but could be a Pinus.
