Can someone help with this found on a dead/dying Rhododendron bud.
They were clustered on the surface (1.5mm across) and although I could find no asci the spores were 3 septate and 27 x 3.5. the whole apothecia was blued by meltzers.
Thanks
Mal

Hi Mal,
Perhaps, considering the blue tones and the fusarium-like spore, you have a Gibberella species?
Cheers,
Nick

Re : Black asco on Rhododendron
Thanks for the replies. Searching for information on the suggested species (Strossmayeria and Gibberella) the latter looks most likely but as the key seems to need the anomorph information I think it will stay as Gibberella sp (possibly G zeae).
