Reports of parasitic Cryptomycina pteridis
Erwin Gruber, 30-08-2020 09:54
In about two months ago i was asked for Id suggestion in concern of an obviously parasitic fungus inahbiting leaves of Pteridium aquilinum in Oregon; USA.
I did not know this Cryptomycina pteridis in Oregon by then.
Now the uploading user found the right identification, revealing there are only 11 Observations of Cryptomycina pteridis in iNaturalist at time.

I do suppose this fungus (or close relatives) will be more widespread in the vast, cosmopolitan range of Pteridium aquilinum s. lato. Perhaps i had seen this kind of fungus, but not recognized, or forgotten in the meanwhile.
Who knows about further occurrences and reports of this ascomycete and relatives.
I will do a search in this forum.
