white, hairy anamorph on moss
François Bartholomeeusen, 29-12-2020 22:18
Hi forum members,

I can't figure this one out, can somebody help me?
At first I thought the white, hairy tufts grew on mice dung, but later they turned out to grow on moss namely: Kindbergia praelonga.
Under the microscope I didn't find a "hairlike"-structure but probably conidiogenous cells and conidia.

Measurement of conidiogenous cells: 282-395 x 12-23 µm
Measurements of conidia: 15,11-35,21 x 9,21-12,91 µm

Thanks in advance and for everyone the best wishes for 2021!

Re : white, hairy anamorph on moss
Hello Francois,
I have no idea about the fungus.
But I think it does not grow (mainly) on moss, but on faeces of rainworm, otherwise also called soil.
Best regards, Lothar

Re : white, hairy anamorph on moss
Good day Lothar,

Thanks for the information! So it's earthworm faeces, because there was a lot of mouse activity in the area I thought of mouse "shit". I have to admit that dung is not my favorite subject!

I attach a photo to prove that the fungus did grow on moss.

Greetings,

François
