Bivonella
Paul Cannon, 17-05-2014 21:46
Hello everyone - I have a specimen collected from burnt branches of Ulex europaeus from southern England, that seems to be similar to Bivonella chrysomalla but with larger ascospores and of course a different ecology. I wonder whether anyone else has seen this fungus, or can tell me what it is? All help will be much appreciated.

See http://fungi.myspecies.info/all-fungi/bivonella-sp-p1405

as well as the images.

Re : Bivonella

Hi Paul

I think your fungus is Mattirolia roseovirens

Re : Bivonella

I have compared our specimen with the description by Julia Checa and colleages kindly sent by Enrique. It does appear to be close to Mattirolia roseovirens, but the ascospores are rather smaller and there are some other differences. I will store it as M. roseovirens for the present, hopefully more collections will be made and we can investigate the differences in more detail. The web page has been changed: see

Best wishes

Paul
