Calycina junipericola
jean claude chasle, 24-02-2021 21:56
Bonjour,

Michel

Re : Calycina junipericola
This is correct, and with a narrow genus concept it would be a Gemmina (this and G. gemmarum have warted hairs like Cistella).

Re : Calycina junipericola
Good night

I think I have the same species, on Cupressus arizonica, spores with 2 "guttules" (6,2) 6,7 - 8,1 (8,6) × (2,6) 2,8 - 3,3 (3,6); Q = (1,9) 2 - 2,7 (2,8); N = 39; Me = 7,3 × 3,1; Qe = 2,4

Are you agree?

Re : Calycina junipericola
Yes, clearly this species. The two large guttules are vacuoles, they stain blue in CRB, I have a photo by Raul.

Re : Calycina junipericola
Really? So that guttules are CRBs, in the spores? Amazing.

Re : Calycina junipericola
Yes, CRBs ;-)

They are not SCBs but VBs. Refractive vacuoles occur in a few Helotiales species, in spores (e.g. Helotium schimperi) or sometimes conidia (Symphyosirinia). Non-refractive vaucoles are normal in spores, though mainyl when they germinate.

Re : Calycina junipericola
Sorry, I meant VBs, instead of CRBs.

I believed that VBs only existed in the paraphyses and in the cells of the outer layer of the ectal exciple, and that in the spores there could only be LBs.

Re : Calycina junipericola
This is mainly true but not always. Take Orbilia, the spore body is a specialised vacuole. A good test is KOH, the drops will disappear.
