Orbilia on Pteridum
Enrique Rubio, 29-11-2021 19:04
Enrique RubioHi to everybody
Do you have some idea on this whitish Orbilia with very small ascospores growing on rachis of Pteridium aquilinimum on a wet place at the sea level?
Many thanks in advance

Re : Orbilia on Pteridum
This is the very rare case of an Orbilia on a fern. Only O. auricolor was recorded there in the monograph.

Did you test the key? I suggest series Neodactylella, perhaps close to O. rectispora.

Could you please send me in higher resolution? That would make it easier.

Re : Orbilia on Pteridum
Yes, I had come close to O. rectispora, but the substrate is rather peculiar and I (and you) only know this fungus on monocots.

Re : Orbilia on Pteridum
I measured the spores as *5.2-6.3(-6.7) x 0.8-1.05 µm.

They are a bit short but I know no other species, except for O. atlantis, which has smaller SBs and the yellowish color (VBs).O. cardui has distinctly wider spores.
