Discomycete on Ulex europeaus
Jenny Seawright, 27-02-2015 19:19
Jenny SeawrightHello all,

I wondered if it would be possible for anyone to suggest the identity of this discomycete over-growing or emerging through a gelatinous fungus (/) on Ulex europeaus?

The only spores to be seen were still in a few asci - simple, warted, 10-12 x 7-10 µm

With regards,
Jenny

Re : Discomycete on Ulex europeaus
Please try to find out whether these are spores or an assemblage of minute conidia. In the latter case you have a species of Claussenomyces.

Re : Discomycete on Ulex europeaus
It all gets a bit simpler when I've an idea of what I'm looking for!
A different apothecia yielded a few asci with the remains of multi-septate (6+) spores so Claussenomyces atrovirens?

With regards,
Jenny

Yes! And this is at least a hint on C. atrovirens. These spores should also contain some longitudinal septa (muriform), and it looks so.

Thank you Zotto - mistaking conidia for spores no wonder I couldn't key it with Ellis & Ellis!

Re : Discomycete on Ulex europeaus
This gives an idea of the muriform ascospores (top right) breaking down into conidia:
